“You brought me out into a spacious place” the Psalmist marveled with thanks to the Lord (Psalm 18:19, 31:8). We want to help you step into the spaciousness that the Good Shepherd has for you and your ministry. We do that by facilitating your intimacy with Jesus.
Soul Shepherding from the Lord Jesus Christ is what enables you to enjoy lasting spiritual renewal and fruitful ministry to others.
But there are obstacles that get in the way. Hurts and worries may burden you. Conflicts can cripple. Ministry stress may overwhelm. More church attendance, Bible study, and hard work are not enough for you to [...]

Mary offered a little prayer of faith to receive the birth of Christ and the world has never been the same! How might the world around you change if you offer her prayer from your heart?
These days in the Christmas season can be hectic. Many people find their calendars too full with holiday actives and they are hurried and stressed. For some there are family conflicts or financial problems to deal with. Others are lonely. These things — whether happy or unhappy — may distract us from appreciating the Christ of Christmas.
All of us, whether we realize it or not, [...]

When was the last time you sat by the ocean, a lake, or a stream? It’s a great place to meet God and breathe in deep as you appreciate his beauty and goodness that restores your soul.
Kristi and will be leading 30 missionaries in a 3-day retreat at the ocean at a private hotel in Mexico. What joy it brings us to assist Jesus’ ministry of renewing people who work so hard to share his gospel!
Our personal retreats and the ones like this that we lead for others are all about intimacy with Jesus. Through Scripture meditation, soul talk, solitude, and [...]

This little prayer is anointed. It is powerful. It will bless you and others with God’s peace.
Why do I share it with you? Because you might need to pause right now and open yourself to the Spirit of God.
Imagine
Imagine yourself standing with Jesus at his baptism. Because you’ve put your trust in him you are “in Christ.” You are baptized and blessed with him—be submerged in the baptismal waters, appreciate that you are immersed in the community of the Father, Son, and Spirit…
Hear the Father say to you the words you long to hear: “You are my beloved son/daughter and in you [...]

Could eight words transform your life for God? Yes! They did for Jesus and they will for you if you pray them from your heart — and keep praying them.
Let me set the stage for these words of power and peace to live in you and I as they did in Jesus…
Jesus’ Way for You
Remember that Jesus was tempted to sin in every way that we are and he experienced all the stresses and pains that we do — and far more besides — and he remained loving toward God and neighbor and always at peace (Hebrews 4:15). The Son of God was [...]

Sometimes I’m just overwhelmed with appreciation for God’s grace — aren’t you? Praying a Psalm often warms my heart with a fresh realization that because of God’s love I have every reason to be happy right now, no matter what difficulties I’m facing that day.
My little Psalms prayer, “How Could it Be?” will bring a smile to your soul:
How Could it Be?
Who is like You?
Lord Jesus Christ…
You sit enthroned on high!
~
How could it be?
Lord Jesus Christ…
You stoop down to make me [...]

“Teach us to number our days aright,” is Moses’ prayer of wisdom for us. “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all of our days” (Psalm 90:12, 14).
Don’t squander time. Don’t regret the past and don’t worry about the future. Live in this moment with God! The Psalmist reminds himself and us of this continually.
When we live by our own strength and for our own desires our lives shrink. Hurry, stress, insecurity, fear, and complaining become our friends. We forget that, “Now is the time of God’s favor, now is day of [...]

We’ve been providing care, counsel, and prayer to pastors and other servants of Christ for a number of years. One of the most important things we do is help them to rest in God.
Every pastor and ministry leader I know — starting with the one that looks back at me in the mirror! — needs more of the rest of soul that Jesus offers us in his embrace (Matthew 11:28-30). Probably this is true for you as well.
How easy it is to be so busy with God’s work and caring for people that you [...]

As Christians today we talk a lot about the love and grace of God, but we don’t talk much about him being the holy Judge — that seems scary or harsh to us. And yet repeatedly the Psalmist rejoices that the Lord is the Judge. He approaches God’s judgment seat not with fear or shame, but with eager confidence, trusting that the Lord will accept him and set everything right.
From the Psalmist I have learned to rely on the Lord as the Righteous Judge so that I don’t fear the criticisms and condemnations of people. I’ve also learned from the Psalmist that when I [...]

Negative emotions. We all have them. We all have struggled with how to deal with emotions like worry, anger, depression, shame, ambition, lust, and jealousy—even a psychologist like me who has devoted 24 years to helping people overcome emotional problems.
Of course, having an emotion isn’t a problem—it’s normal. But how do we respond to troubling emotions? That’s the issue.
Emotions become “negative” when they are internalized or acted on in ways that harm yourself or others. Many of the ministry leaders and other Christ followers that we talk to struggle with negative emotions.
Learn from the Psalmist
“Do not worry… Do [...]
