Bill Pay
Set up bill pay with your bank account (recurring payments are also possible). Here are links to three major banks to do this: Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo. If your bank is not listed, go to your bank’s website and search “bill pay” to learn how to set it up. You’ll need the Soul Shepherding contact information in the “Give by Check/Mail” box to enter as a new bill payee.
Give by Gifts of Stock
Capital gains taxes can be avoided when you donate appreciated stock, and you may receive a tax deduction for the full value of the stock on the date of transfer. To qualify for these tax advantages, you must have owned the stock for at least one year. It is helpful if you initiate your stock donation transfers with your broker/investment firm by Dec. 1 to allow for transaction processing time at the end of the calendar year.
Give from your IRA (QCD-Qualified Charitable Distribution)
If you are over 70.5 years old, you can give to Soul Shepherding directly from your traditional IRA. These donations count toward your required minimum distribution but are not taxed, potentially lowering your adjusted gross income for tax purposes. Talk about this with your tax advisor and work with your IRA custodian to donate from your IRA.
