Bill has been leading a monthly “Soul Shepherd” spiritual formation group in Irvine, CA for pastors and ministry leaders since 2005.
Kristi leads a separate group for women in ministry, including pastors’ wives. Her group makes special use of “Lectio Divina” (a delightful way of meditating on a Bible passage) and is currently going through the Gospel of Mark.
The purpose of a Soul Shepherd group is to invest in ministry leaders, guiding them into greater intimacy with Jesus and helping them to grow in their apprenticeship to Jesus. This has proven to lead participants to much greater fruitfulness in ministry for Christ and his kingdom. And to prevent burn out, stress overload, and other problems.
Ministry leaders are under tremendous stress. We have found that pastors and other Christian leaders need…
- Help slowing down and getting attuned to God’s gracious presence (through various prayer/meditation exercises)
- A safe, confidential place to share how things are really going in the relationship with God
- Encouragement in their ministries
